Off the beaten track you walk across silent valleys highlighted by ancient trades. You will come across mountain farms where time does not rush by, but instead moves slowly and the tastes have remained as they once were. The typical rock faces of the Dolomites frame these areas which at a slow but steady pace lead to green alpine passes, covered in rare flowers such as negritella and edelweiss, then descend winding down to the marvellous basin of Tovel Lake named the Caribbean waters of Trentino thanks to its turquoise coloured water and its white limestone beaches. Also named the Red Lake thanks to the incredible phenomenon which dyes its water blood-coloured until the early 1970s, due to a particular micro-organism that took on an intense red colour at certain temperatures.The departure point is from Andalo by taxi-jeep up to Malga Daniola Bassa. Continue on foot along a path until you reach Malga Spora. From here often together with grazing cows, you climb up steeply towards Passo della Gaiarda (max.height -m.2242). From the pass gradually head down towards Campo della Flavona where you will hear the loud whistles of the marmots, to then reach Malga Flavona. After stopping off for lunch, you then descend along the path, then along a forestry road until you reach Lake Tovel. From here you return to Andalo by taxi-jeep.
